Supporting our fabulous libraries

Auckland Council is doing a 'needs assessment' on the Takapuna Library and the neighbouring Mary Thomas Centre and Community Services Building (home to Citizens Advice, Plunket, Takapuna Senior Citizens, and Memorial Hall to name just a few).
We hope this will result in a hugely expanded library, and a commitment to retain our community spaces and future-proof them for expansion to serve the evolving needs of a population which is set to treble in the next 30 years alone.
But there are warning signs that Council plans to move and downsize them all - then sell the land to developers (just as they are doing at the 40 Anzac St Takapuna carpark and market).
Heart of the Shore will stand strong against our library or community services being reduced, or the land sold. We will fight to keep our public land in public hands - where it can serve the public good.
