Patuone Walkway

Patuone Walkway adjoins upper-Shoal Bay, part of a Significant Ecological Area. Currently, Council’s Community Facilities Department plans to construct a concrete pathway alongside the edge of the estuary and constuct a boardwalk through the environmentally sensitive mangrove area. The environmental impact of these two actions are been questioned by members of the community and Local Board. The cost of this project is estimated to be 2.2 million.  There is a better alternative plan that would ensure the area’s conservation status is protected and provide for better public use of the area. The Local Board must take responsibility to ensure that public funds are spent sensibly and with care.
