Milford matters

Heart of the Shore's Iain Rea & Jan O'Connor were out and about meeting Milford shoppers this morning.
There’s no substitute for getting out and talking to people to really get the scoop on what’s important locally. And there’s some big issues here which need to be tackled.
The parlous state of the Wairau Creek and our polluted beaches needs urgent attention. The work has started – but the overwhelming feedback is that it’s hard to find out what is happening, and that it’s not happening fast enough.
Heart of the Shore will be keeping close tabs on the project. We’ll also take a hard look at how we keep our communities up to date – and make it easier for everyone to access the information they want.
Intensification and new developments are also a real touchpoint here – as they are in many neighbourhoods around the area. The recent approval of a large development in Pierce Rd has ignited heated debate over projects which don’t comply with the Unitary Plan.
Heart of the Shore will fight to rein in the discretionary power of Council planners to allow non-compliant developments.
The stagnant 2015-2045 Milford Centre Plan needs to be kickstarted to make sure Milford doesn’t get left behind.
