Bayswater upgrade badly needed
Heart of the Shore’s Trish Deans, Ruth Jackson, Iain Rea, and Jan O'Connor were out and about meeting the folks catching the Bayswater ferry today.
It’s an absolutely lovely trip on fine days: with beautiful views, and a regular crowd who chat as they cross the harbour.
But there’s huge frustration that there’s still no bus shelter, no canopy over most of the ferry ramp, and only a tiny portable cabin for waiting commuters – making it a pretty bleak experience on cold, wet days.
Auckland has poured huge investment into public transport – but it seems Bayswater is being left behind. Excellent ferry and bus services will help relieve pressure on the constantly-congested Lake Rd – particularly as our population grows and housing intensifies. An upgraded ferry terminal at Bayswater will play an important role in that – and we’ll be pushing to get it as quickly as possible.
